BACKGROUND
He was born into the world on a cold day, to a couple who were unsure and too young to be parents. They were still in high school when they made their mistake, and his name was Choi Seunghyun. All throughout the pregnancy, there were talks of abortion, but his mother's father wasn't going to allow any such thing. He was already balding at the time Seunghyun arrived on the scene and he was the only one to cry tears of joy when he saw the tiny baby boy. His mother fled the scene and his father's family relocated to another place. Seunghyun never asked the names of his parents. He didn't think he wanted to know, he still doesn't.
Busan was no place for a boy like Choi Seunghyun. Sitting with his grandfather inside of the Jagalchi Market every day after school was like a prison sentence and the kind hearted old man was aware of the fact, but he always told Seunghyun that good things would come to those who waited. Seunghyun didn't want to wait. He liked singing trot songs and listening to the ajummas gossip about current events, but this wasn't what he wanted to do or be. He knew, even at the age of ten, that he'd have to get out on his own. There would be no helping hands to pull him away from where he was stuck.
Nothing much can be said about the years after he realized this, because he spent them with his nose in a book, constantly seeking to better himself and all of his efforts paid off. He was awarded a scholarship to SNU and his grandfather cried tears of pure elation for the second time.
College life was where he was able to finally think of himself as a person, not some machine who tediously worked from sun up to sun down to make himself better. It was also where he learned that he was damn good at racing. He fell into a crowd that seemed to always know how to get easy money, and racing had seemed the best of the illegal activities. He was good at it. Between excelling in classes and spending his nights out on the circuit in borrowed cars under the alias T.O.P, he had it all worked out.
With a business degree in hand and a pocket full of cash from winnings, Seunghyun was able to start his own karaoke bar. It was only months before he'd gotten his second and the income was steady enough for him to live luxuriously. Life in the fast lane, however, came to an abrupt end when he was in a serious accident in the middle of a race just two years ago. With multiple broken bones and lacerations, he said in the hospital that he'd never race again. He kept his word.
He now owns seven karaoke bars in various districts of Seoul, has his own penthouse apartment and spends his nights out on the town. Only recently has he been spotted back out at the race tracks, still wanting a taste of the excitement, but there's a limp in his gait that's a heavy reminder of why he shouldn't.
